May 1, 2020 Health Update

It’s the end of another week of the pandemic with many new polices being put in place to address many new challenges. This is a summary of three sets of new MassHealth policy changes that will make it easier for applicants to qualify for coverage and enhance services for people receiving services in the home and community-based waiver programs during the emergency period:

·         New path to MassHealth eligibility for elderly & disabled people subject to a deductible

Yesterday April 24, 2020, MassHealth filed an emergency 1115 waiver request for changes they are asking for as of Mar 1 and that would continue throughout the public health emergency.

Social Determinants COVID-19 Update: More help available

The IRS issued an alert today that it will be automatically sending $1200 recovery rebates soon to eligible Social Security beneficiaries who do not have to file taxes BUT that if those beneficiaries are entitled to the added $500 payment for a qualifying child, they must supply information in the  

In the event that this clarifies any questions you've had about MassHealth's freeze on terminations, we wanted to pass along this helpful messaging from the MA Health Care Training Forum. This includes information for people who have received termination notices or Requests for Information, or have lost their MassHealth benefits since March 18.

Today MassHealth announced important new protections for MassHealth members who were enrolled in MassHealth benefits on March 18, 2020 or later. Many thanks to everyone at the Office of Medicaid for their speedy implementation of this provision!
