Senate Republicans are trying again to garner 50 votes to repeal & replace the Affordable Care Act.  The threat is real.  What can we do here in Massachusetts where both our US Senators and our Governor already oppose the latest effort to repeal & replace the ACA? Time again to call our friends & family in key states to weigh in with their Senators or Governors this time asking them to oppose the Graham-Cassidy bill.

The Governor & EOHHS remain intent on restricting eligibility and benefits in MassHealth despite the legislature's refusal to add the necessary authorizing legislation to the FY 2018 budget. We expect more legislative activity in September. Meanwhile, EOHHS has released for public comment proposed amendments to the current 1115 demonstration waiver.

MassHealth Social Services Integration Working Group -apply by Aug 4 at noon

MassHealth is seeking nominees to serve on a working group to address how newly formed ACOs can best address social determinants of health through social services integration and by using flexible funds available for this purpose. ACOs are expected to be enrolling members for coverage beginning March 2018.

A terrible week for health care

1. On Tuesday, Governor Baker asked the conference committee working out a budget for the fiscal year that begins July 1 to include language on an employer assessment that has been in the works since January. What has not gotten into the headlines: he also advanced a completely new proposal to cut MassHealth eligibility for non-disabled adults (primarily parents but also child-less adults) and authority to cut any optional benefits potentially affecting all MassHealth beneficiaries including children, people with disabilities and the elderly.
