The TAFDC (welfare) clothing allowance this fall is $350 per child.

  • The Department of Transitional Assistance (DTA) will deposit $350 on or close to August 30 for every child receiving TAFDC on August 30.

You can apply for TAFDC in September and get the clothing allowance plus a regular grant.

  • TAFDC eligibility limits go up for the month of September so you may qualify in September even if you were not eligible before.
  • Working families who get TAFDC are eligible for a child care subsidy even if they do not stay on TAFDC.

6,000 children who were barred before because of the family cap are now eligible for the clothing allowance!
