MA Organizational sign on letter - SNAP administrative funding - sign by end of tomorrow (Friday)!

The 2021 American Rescue Plan includes important investments in nutrition programs, including $1.135 billion dollars of 100% federal funding to states to support states as they respond to the increased demand for SNAP.  Massachusetts is projected to receive nearly $29M in federal administrative funding over a 3-year period, including $6M for the current fiscal year.  Normally states absorb roughly 50% of SNAP admin dollars.  Here is the USDA Fact Sheet on ARP and here is the USDA guidance with a breakdown of the admin funding by state for federal fiscal years (FFY) 2021, 2022 and 2023.

We hope the Baker Administration will use this funding wisely to:

  • Ensure staffing to support the increased SNAP caseload and ensure local offices are able to safely serve vulnerable populations,
  • Take more aggressive steps to finally close the” SNAP gap” (still nearly 700K MassHealth recipients not getting SNAP)
  • Focus on improvements to reach underserved immigrant and LEP communities, and
  • Take steps to help SNAP households mitigate the anticipated “cliff effect” of loss of the extra SNAP COVID boosts.

DEADLINE for organizations to sign on is end of day Friday, May 7th.
