Sept 9th Coalition Mini-meeting; Boston Indicators Report on Fed SNAP Cuts; Feeding Our Neighbors Campaign; National Sign-on Letter
Greetings all (Vicky is on vacation part of this week). Quick reminder - next Tuesday, September 9th at 10AM - we are hosting a special SNAP “mini” coalition meeting (1 hour) to update folks on what we know about implementation of the harmful Republican Megabill, check in on the current ABAWD time limits/access barriers and what Coalition members are seeing locally. Here’s the meeting Zoom link.
Boston Indicators Report on the SNAP Cuts in the GOP Megabill:
Check out this just released powerful report, Meeting the Moment: SNAP Cuts and the Local Fallout. The report focuses on the fallout of the Republican Megabill in Greater Boston, but also includes helpful descriptions of each element of the changes. TY to TBF and Boston Indicators for this timely report.
Join the Feeding Our Neighbors Campaign - Sept 4th meeting
The Feeding Our Neighbors (FON) Coalition was formed in 2023 to protect access to SNAP for MA immigrant residents. In December of 2023, the campaign successfully secured funding for state-funded SNAP for legally present immigrants ineligible under federal rules - largely immigrants with TPS, Dreamers, pending asylum, immigrants subject to the 5-year bar. These state-funded benefits sunset at the end of May 2024 due to lack of funding.
Unfortunately, the Republican Mega Bill passed in July cuts SNAP to legal immigrants including person who entered with refugee status, have political asylum, are victims of human trafficking, are battered immigrants and/or humanitarian statuses. parolees. Roughly 10,000 MA immigrants may lose federal SNAP benefits in the coming month if they do not have LPR status, and others in need may be denied access. The FON Coalition is working to both minimize the harm and seek state-funded benefits to replace the loss of federal SNAP for MA immigrants in need. The first FON Coalition meeting is this Thursday afternoon, Sept 4th (If you are a FON member, you should have received the Zoom link already). If you are not a member - or did not get the link - please sign up HERE and we will send you the meeting details.
Organizational Sign-On Letter: Urge Congress to Cosponsor Bill Repealing Recent SNAP (9/17 deadline)
In partnership with the Food Research and Action Center (FRAC) and Center for Budget and Policy Priorities (CBPP), we urge all MA anti-hunger organizations to sign onto THIS LETTER urging Members of Congress to cosponsor the upcoming Restoring Food Security for American Families and Farmers Act of 2025. This bill would repeal the damaging SNAP cuts enacted in the recent budget reconciliation law.
Sign on deadline: Thursday, 9/17/25.
