#Protect SNAP/Medicaid Northeast DAY OF ACTION (6/25); GBFB Cost of Hunger Report; Analyses of Proposed SNAP cuts and more

SAVE THE DATE! JUNE 25th is the NORTHEAST DAY of ACTION.

Join advocates from New England and New York on June 25th in a powerful day of action to send a strong message: The Northeast says NO to proposals that put billionaires over the basic needs of people.

Congress is moving quickly to pass cuts to SNAP, Medicaid, and other programs to fund tax breaks for billionaires. The House already voted to cut these programs by more than $1 trillion, and the Senate is poised to vote on their proposals, which are equally devastating. We can stop them. But we need your help.

June 25th will be the day of action urging Senators in every Northeast state to vote NO on the budget bill that aims to slash our most important basic needs programs. It will also be a day for Northeasterners to reach out to family friends in other regions of the country to make sure they are contacting their Senators, urging them to vote NO.

The Cost of Hunger in Massachusetts: The Greater Boston Food Bank’s 2025 Annual Report.

New data from GBFB and Mass General Brigham (MGB) confirm that hunger is an urgent, ongoing challenge in Massachusetts. Check out their full report to learn how food insecurity is impacting the health of residents with proposed solutions. See also MGB’s media statement and the MassLive story released this AM. Accompanied by MA Congress Members Jim McGovern and Ayanna Pressley and EOHHS Secretary Kate Walsh at yesterday’s GBFB/MGB press conference, Minority Whip Katherine Clark noted: “Hunger is a great injustice of our time….It is not abstract or something that we can’t touch or feel. It is physical and it is immediate.

Key findings in the GBFB report include:

  • 37% of MA households faced food insecurity in 2024, rising from 34% in 2023.
  • 67% of food-insecure households reported having at least one chronic health condition.
  • 40% of food-insecure households reported forgoing necessary medical, dental, or prescription care.
