OLGT 2023-74: Cross Programs: High School Equivalency Testing and Vouchers

Date:

Effective February 2023, the Department of Elementary and Secondary
Education (DESE) began covering the cost of high school equivalency
tests, commonly known as GED or HiSET, for eligible residents of
Massachusetts. DTA will no longer provide voucher codes to current and
former TAFDC recipients to cover the cost of high school equivalency
testing as the costs will be covered by DESE.

Since this change became effective, DTA has been working closely with
DESE to ensure a seamless transition from the use of DTA test vouchers to
the statewide access codes through DESE. This guidance provides
confirmation that the Department will no longer issue High School
Equivalency (HSE) voucher codes to TAFDC or former TAFDC recipients
for HiSET or GED exams, with some limited exceptions. Future emails
regarding any HSE payment issues, including the need for a current or
former TAFDC recipient to test beyond the allowable retakes under the
DESE code, must now be sent to
DTA.EmploymentServices@massmail.state.ma.us.
