MassHealth members in Standard, CommonHealth and CarePlus are eligible for non-emergency transportation assistance to get to and from their appointments with MassHealth providers if  they cannot use public transportation due to a disability or medical condition or because there is no available public transportation. To qualify for this transportation assistance the member's health care provider or health plan must obtain prior authorization from MassHealth by submitting a Prescription for Transportation otherwise know as a PT-1 Form. If approved, the rides are arranged between a transportation broker and the MassHealth member. What is changing July 1, 2021 are the broker contracts. The new contracts should make it easier for members to schedule safe and reliable rides and to get any complaints of poor service taken seriously and resolved. These changes are a direct response to concerns raised by people in the disability community who use these services.
