MA Orgs weigh in: NO Cuts to SNAP! Coalition Meeting on 5/27
Thinking about all of you as we approach Memorial Day. As the country honors those who served the nation, it’s important to note that yesterday’s House Reconciliation Package leaves no stone unturned - harming low-income veterans and their families throughout the country. House Democrats on the House Committee on Veterans Affairs issued a statement in opposition yesterday on the “One Big Billionaire Package”. And as CBPP noted in their statement yesterday, “House Republicans are walking away from a 50-year, bipartisan commitment to ensure that children in families with low incomes get the help they need, no matter what state they live in.” Yes, 50 years of bi-partisan support for programs that serve our country and local communities.
It’s NOT Over - Keep Up The Noise!
In the past 24 hours:
- MLRI released a statement condemning House Republicans' vote to cut SNAP and Medicaid. “The bill
passed by the House sends a message to Massachusetts residents and all who are struggling that Congress cares more about the wealthy and the powerful than it does about families and individuals struggling to put food on the table or pay for health care.” - MassBudget’s statement “This is not a ‘big, beautiful’ bill. This is a ‘billionaire bailout bomb’ that punishes poor families, and strips healthcare and food from millions, in order to give the ultra-wealthy more tax breaks. It is both cruel and fiscally irresponsible, raising the national debt limit to $4 trillion.”
- Children’s Health Watch’s statement and call to action: “Now, the Senate must stand up for children and families and reject these harmful cuts. Children’s HealthWatch remains committed to bringing real-time data to policymakers to show the financial and human cost of these decisions and relentlessly advocate for policies that put children and their health first.”
We urge Coalition members to dial up the noise, make public statements as an organization and/or as private citizens. Please share any statements and social media you do release, and we’ll keep track of them and share next week. Please also profusely THANK the MA Congressional Delegation who ALL voted down the House Reconciliation Budget.
