In a case that received widespread media attention, a federal court in New Jersey issued an injunction prohibiting a school district from implementing a new policy allowing for multiple valedictorians at high school graduation ceremonies. The policy had been proposed following complaints that the likely valedictorian for the class of 2003, a student with a disability who had the highest weighted grade point average in her class, had had an unfair advantage due to the disability-related accommodations she had received during her high school years.
