Gov. Healey opposes SNAP cuts - dial up the noise! + New law to seal eviction records

Hang in there and keep up the noise - we are still fighting for the heart and soul of the SNAP program.

Governor Healey Pushes Back on GOP Efforts to cut SNAP/Shift Costs to States

Governor Healey, Lt. Governor Discoll, EOHHS Secretary Walsh and Commissioner McCue stridently oppose efforts from Congressional Republicans to gut SNAP - saying in a press release today that efforts to dump costs onto states, vastly expand failed work requirements, and cut benefits would “force Massachusetts families to go hungry,” are “reckless and dangerous,” and would make “this vital food program impossible for states to administer and impossible to understand for people who need it.” Commissioner McCue also said the cuts proposed by Republicans “fundamentally misunderstand how SNAP actually works.” We could not agree more!

ACTION STEPS: Dial up the noise!

New Massachusetts Law for Tenants to “Seal” Eviction Records.

On May 5, a new law went into effect in Massachusetts that allows tenants to "seal" their eviction record in certain types of cases. "Seal" means that the eviction record will no longer be publicly available. Tenants can file the petition to seal online, by mail, or in person at court. It is free to file the petition. More details here: SealMyEviction.org

Legal aid programs in Massachusetts have organized a number of workshops to help tenants file the petition. Find a list of these workshops at the bottom of this page, How do I file a petition to seal my eviction record? | Massachusetts Legal Help. Tenants can also use a free online interview to prepare their petition. Court Forms Online
