Transitional Support Service Stipends

What is TSS?

When a TAFDC case closes for having countable earned income or a combination of earned income and other income in excess of the grant, each former adult employed household member can receive Transitional Support Services (TSS).

TSS services:

Stipends (not TAFDC benefits) that assist former TAFDC clients as they move to employment and economic self-sufficiency.

  • There are two types of stipends: Work Related and Transportation
  • Stipends begin when a case is closed for 30 days and are available for a period of 4 months in systematically decreasing amounts.
  • Stipends can be cancelled by the former client at any time.

Intended to support the retention of employment and prevent the need to return to TAFDC.

Only available to former adult household members if their TAFDC case remains closed. Former clients eligible for TSS will receive stipends regardless of whether or not a SNAP or ESP case is active.

To qualify for TSS stipends, a case must close due to countable earned income or a combination of earned income and other income in excess of the grant and not as the result of a voluntary closure.

If the grantee informs you that s/he would like to voluntarily close her/his TAFDC case, please inquire if this voluntary closure is the result of a new job, or increased earnings, so that the client avoids missing this potential opportunity.
