SNAP Calculators

This SNAP Calculator web page includes two Excel "calculators" (and one manual worksheet) which can be used to estimate the amount of monthly SNAP benefits your household may be eligible for in Massachusetts. The calculators are designed for advocates who are familiar with SNAP rules although everyone is welcome to download the calculators.  If you are less familiar with the rules, you may want to use the web-based step-by-step eligibility calculator at Project Bread's site, which is intended for use by the general public.

These calculators and worksheet are current as of the most recent cost of living adjustments: October 1, 2015

What's the difference between the calculators?

The "detailed/printable" SNAP calculator has more SNAP math calculations to get at detailed situations - such as identifying detailed shelter or child care costs, calculating child support from earned income, elder/disabled households with income over 200% FPL. It performs a Bay State Cap calculation for SSI-only households with no earnings. You can then print out a summary sheet of the calculations similar to DTA notices.

The "simplified" SNAP calculator is shorter for routine calculations. It does not identify source of income for child support payments, type of shelter or child care deduction nor perform a Bay State CAP calculation.

In addition to the Excel calculators, the SNAP calculation worksheet is a one page worksheet for manual calculations.

All the calculators are updated to include the current dollar amounts for deductions, including the March 2014 increase in the standard medical deduction from $90 to $155/month.  Note that these calculators are intended as a convenience tool only and will result in an estimate of benefit amounts; DTA makes the final determination of eligibility and benefits amount. (Both Excel calculators require that a spreadsheet program such as Microsoft Excel or OpenOffice be loaded on your computer.) Please report any incorrect results to Pat Baker:  or Vicky Negus:
