Reminder re replacement SNAP for food lost or unsafe to eat due to recent power outages

FoodSNAP
Tnx to our colleagues in Central MA, just a quick reminder that DTA will replace SNAP benefits for households that lost food (destroyed our unsafe to eat). See Casey Burns email below.

With the recent storm this weekend we wanted to remind you that If you lost food that you bought with your SNAP benefits because of loss of electricity DTA may be able to replace your benefits.

you may qualify for replacement SNAP benefits. You can ask for replacement SNAP if you lost food that you bought with SNAP because:
  • You lost power for 4 hours or more,
  • Your utilities were shut off (for any reason),
  • Your freezer or refrigerator stopped working, or
  • There was damage from a fire, flood, or storm.

  1. Tell DTA within 10 days of the food loss. You can do this in person, by phone, fax, or mail. Or, send DTA a note reporting the loss through DTA Connect!
  2. Within 10 days of when you report the loss, you also need to give DTA a signed ”Request for Replacement SNAP Benefits” form. This can also serve as your initial report. Bottom line: the sooner you get DTA this form, the faster you can get replacement SNAP benefits.
