The Education Section includes laws, regulations, cases and other information relevant to schools, parents and students, and other systems and human service agencies that impact students. Children with disabilities who are ages 3 – 22 may be served by the public school system; and children not considered disabled must attend school until they are 16. The topics in this section include:
 

  • General education, applicable to all students;
  • Special education and dispute resolution for students with disabilities;
  • Discrimination and laws to protect students with disabilities or who are from a minority group;
  • Discipline and the juvenile justice system;
  • Domestic violence and the effect on children;
  • Students who are homeless or in the foster care system;
  • Human service agencies that support children and adults; and
  • Attorney’s fees.
