Field Ops Memo 2009-10: DTA/DMH SNAP Refresher on Medical Expense Deduction and Treatment of Group Home Shelter Costs

DTA guidance as a result of trainings to Department of Mental Health (DMH) case managers.  Field Operations memo includes refresher information on SNAP eligiblity including a number of Q &As on the scope of SNAP medical expenses allowed (e.g, costs of maintenance of therapeutic pets, nutritional supplements, special diets).  Although nutritional supplements are now allowed as a medical expense, SNAP benefits can be used to purchase nutritional supplements (such as Boost and Ensure).  Ops Memo also describes the calculation of shelter costs for DMH group home residents.
