Urgent Action Alert on Proposed Federal Cuts

In response to the extreme and draconian FY2012 budget released earlier this week by House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan (R-WI), FRAC has prepared a series of resources and organized action steps to help you fight the harmful budget cuts and structural changes contained in the bill to critically-important safety net programs, including proposals to convert SNAP/Food Stamps and Medicaid to block grants.

For the latest on the FY2012 budget battle, FRAC’s efforts to fight the SNAP block grant and other provisions harmful to low-income people, statements from allied organizations opposed to the SNAP block grant, and statements by leading economists opposed to provisions in the bill, go to FRAC’s Legislative Action Center.

There will be a flurry of activities leading up to the House vote on the FY2012 budget bill. Anti-hunger advocates need to engage in the following actions designed to fight this harmful bill.

April 8-13 (or the date of the House vote) —Oppose Ryan FY2012 Budget Call-In Days:

Next week, the House will vote on its FY2012 budget proposal that is stunningly extreme. Join organizations across the country opposing Ryan’s draconian FY2012 budget plan. Among the harmful provisions, the plan converts the SNAP/Food Stamp program into a block grant.

Your voice is urgently needed. Please call your Representative - 1-888-245-0215 (toll-free) to reach the Capitol Switchboard. Call any time between now and when the vote occurs (expected next week).

Message: I strongly urge you to vote NO on the House Budget Committee's Budget Resolution. It would slash SNAP (food stamps), Medicaid, Medicare, education... in fact, ALL the investments that help Americans to be economically secure. It denies vital help for low-income and middle class people while giving trillions of dollars in tax cuts to millionaires and big corporations. Please reject these extreme proposals--they would weaken federal protections in a recession and stall economic growth for us all.
