SNAP Misfortune Benefits - Did Clients Lose Food Due to Power Loss from Hurricane Irene?

Please let MLRI or the Food Bank of Western Mass know if you have any SNAP recipient clients whose lost food (likely frozen or refrigerated food) the end of August/early September as a result of losing power due to Hurricane Irene. The traditional deadline for requesting SNAP help for replacement food due to a misfortune is 10 days from the date of the event (in this case, the date of the power outages resulting from the Hurricane, if more than 4 hours of loss of power).

Most states affected by Hurricane Irene requested permission from USDA to allow SNAP households additional time to submit individual requests for replacement SNAP benefits - til September 19th, or in NY until September 23rd.  Other states hit harder by flooding also requested automated SNAP replacement benefits.

DTA has NOT yet made any similar request to USDA for additional time for SNAP recipients in Massachusetts, despite MLRI and the Food Bank urgint DTA to do so. We need to know ASAP if any SNAP recipients you worked with lost food they had previously purchased with SNAP and did not get SNAP replacement benefits.
