Important SNAP Coalition Mtg Tues 12/22 - Congress COVID relief update & MA P-EBT

We have important updates to share and are going ahead with the SNAP Coalition meeting tomorrow, Dec 22nd from 10 to 11 AM, for those able to attend. Colleagues at the Food Research and Action Center (FRAC) will be joining us as well as DTA's Director of Food Security and Nutrition Programs, Brittany Mangini, to give important P-EBT updates.

To start with the VERY positive news from Congress....

COVID package includes 15% boost to SNAP & other federal nutrition help!

We are waiting to see the actual bill language...but for now, please thank our fantastic delegation for their unrelenting support of a 15% boost to SNAP in the $900 billion package that Congress is voting on today. Thank you all for your work to raise up the needs of our communities.

Here is a tweet from our anti-hunger champion Rep. McGovern regarding the 15% boost in the package! And click here for a summary from the House Agriculture committee on the other positive SNAP and federal nutrition elements of the bill. Please note that the actual bill language has not been released yet so please do not rely on this summary as comprehensive - MLRI in partnership with our national partners will confirm & share highlights as soon as we can!

Please tune in if you are able to tomorrow's SNAP Coalition call to learn more about how this long-awaited relief will impact SNAP households!

SNAP Coalition call on Tues 12/22 at 10 AM!

Due to the holiday this week we were planning on having a more informal check in tomorrow - but in light of the federal package and the late December issuance of P-EBT benefits, we are going to have a meeting as normal tomorrow! We expect it will be a shorter meeting - no more than an hour. Zoom info below. Agenda will include:
  • Federal update from FRAC: What's in the new COVID relief package and what does this mean for Massachusetts households?
  • DTA update: DTA will share updated info on the additional P-EBT benefits being issued soon for Oct, Nov and the rest of school year 20/21
  • SNAP applicants/households & access issues:  Checking in on how the pandemic & local DTA office closures are affecting your clients, EBT expedited cases, etc - what are you seeing?
  • Announcements
