Head Start is a federal program that provides free comprehensive early childhood development services to low-income children. The Head Start Act was most recently reauthorized and amended in 2007 to improve the program’s ability to promote low-income children’s school readiness by supporting their cognitive, social, emotional, and physical development in a supportive learning environment where children and their families are provided education, nutrition, social, and other services.
