DTA's NEW Senior Assistance Office is up and running!

See email below from DTA Central Ombuds office and the attached fliers (English and Spanish) announcing the SNAP Senior Assistance Office. We are DELIGHTED that DTA has rolled out this centralized office . It opened one week ago and is going GREAT! This is a huge boon for older adults. The calls are answered by live workers, trained to work with older adults.  Organizations working with older adults are also able to call as well, if you have client consent.  The new phone number, also listed below, is:

 1- 833.712.8027

Good Afternoon,

On behalf of Commissioner McCue I would like to share the following:

DTA is pleased to announce that effective Monday, January 22, 2018, DTA opened the new SNAP Senior Assistance Office (SAO) in Holyoke.  The office opening coincides with the launch of an easier-to-navigate, dedicated phone line for SNAP seniors (833.712.8027) and augments DTA’s new simplified SNAP application for seniors in English and other languages.

With a goal of decreasing access barriers for Massachusetts SNAP seniors, the SAO has specially trained staff available to help seniors who call the new SNAP senior assistance line.  That line is specifically tailored to provide a better experience for SNAP seniors, which include direct access to a case manager without requiring use of automated prompts and the ability to leave a voice message. This phone line is available to seniors and anyone assisting them.

Future enhancements to the SAO will provide outreach to potentially eligible SNAP seniors, including senior MassHealth recipients who were former SNAP clients, offering them help them re-apply for SNAP benefits.

It is important to that although DTA believes the new SNAP senior assistance line will provide an enhanced client experience, any SNAP senior who prefers, can continue to do business in-person at his or her local DTA office.

The attached flyers are available for posting in your offices.  For more information, please visit DTA’s new senior webpage at:

Thank You,
