Welcome back from summer break!  The NEXT Food SNAP Coalition meeting is Tuesday, September 25th from 10 to Noon.  Please try to be there on time as we have a FULL agenda The meeting, as always, will be held at St Francis House, 39 Boylston Street, Boston, MA on the 6th floor. 

We are writing to let you know that approximately 3,000 Massachusetts families whose children had free-meal status last year may lose their automatic free meal status after October 1st. These families need to now apply directly to their local schools for free or reduced-price meals. 

I am writing to urge Food SNAP Coalition members to take a moment to make one quick call to four of our Massachusetts Representatives urging them to join Congressman Jim McGovern in co-sponsoring House Resolution #760. All of our Delegation received information from MLRI on the House Resolution.

The Boston Federal Reserve recently posted a research article analyzing the role of SNAP in the recession with specific data highlighting the impact of SNAP in New England and hailing SNAP as "a life-saver since the economic downturn." http://www.bostonfed.org/commdev/c&b/2012/fall/role-of-food-stamps-in-the-recession.htm
