MLRI note: SLAM is DTA terminology for a household "suspected of living above means" - typically due to inconsistencies between household income and expenses. Often this is easily explained if the household is in debt (back rent) or receives a non-countable gift or "contribution" from a non-legally liable person (family member, friend etc). However, DTA has protocol for tracking these cases to ask for more verification if they are suspicious of uneported income.
___________
When a SLAM circumstance becomes apparent, staff must explore with the household how it is managing its finances. Staff must compare the information a client provides with the information known to the Department and request additional verification, if needed.
