REMINDER, the June Food SNAP Coalition meeting is Tuesday, June 28th, from 10 to Noon.  The first hour is a training by EOHHS Virtual Gateway Staff on the My Accounts Page (how clients can access their SNAP case information on line).

Supplemental disaster SNAP benefits

Here is DTA's guidance on supplemental SNAP benefits for disaster victims who live or work in the 12 designated towns. (This is called a D-SNAP supplement).

The D-SNAP supplemental benefits are available to qualifying households who were already receiving SNAP benefits on June 1. The benefit is the difference between the household's regular SNAP benefit and the maximum benefit. Households in Brimfield, Monson and Wilbraham will get the supplement automatically. Others need to apply.

SNAP replacement benefits for tornado/power outage victims

DTA has just issued guidance to provide food stamp/SNAP benefits to households that lost food due to the June 1st tornadoes and power outages. DTA has been granted a waiver to provide automated replacement benefits to certain households and is implementing existing state policy to respond to individual requests of households affected by the tornado. SNAP Policy Updates: Voter Registration, " My Accounts Page" Issues

1. DTA Voter Registration Procedures: DTA recently issued Operations Memo 2011-18 which describes the local DTA office procedures for assisting SNAP and cash assistance applicants who come in person to the DTA office with voter registration. SNAP applicants who are both 18 + and U.S. citizens should be asked if they want to register to vote. If yes, they will be provided with a Mass Official Registration Form. The client can either deliver to the local city or town election office, or that DTA sends in.

Haitian TPS Clinic This Friday in Dorchester; FAQ on Fed/State Benefits

As you know from yesterday's Food SNAP Coalition meeting, e-blasts and the news, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) re-designated and extended Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Haiti. Catholic Charities will launch a new round of legal clinics starting this Friday, May 27th. They will add more clinics in Boston (Dorchester) and Brockton over the next week. Congress proposes MAJOR cuts to WIC, thousands of women/children

At this AM's Coalition meeting, members discussed a range of cuts to federal programs on the chopping block before Congress. Here is the latest information on proposed cuts to the WIC program including a report from the Center for Budget and Policy Priorities
