Hi, HIP coalition!
Today the House passed a supplemental funding package that includes an additional $2 million for HIP for this fiscal year, along with language that would require that the suspension be lifted within 20 days of final passage and that the program operate on a year-round basis. This is a huge indication that all of your advocacy is being heard and that legislators understand the value of this program.
There are still several more steps before this could become a reality - the Senate will take up the bill next, the Governor will review and sign it, and any differences between the three will have to be resolved. Please take a few minutes to do a few things to build on this momentum:
THANK your representative for supporting HIP. Call them, email them, or - better yet - tag them in a social media post. Social media key is here.
CALL OR EMAIL your senator and let them know that funding for HIP is in the supplemental budget they will be taking up soon and that you hope they will support it.
Continue to write and submit op-eds for your local papers about the importance of HIP. Some recent examples include Mill City Grows, Regional Environmental Council, Siena Farm, and more.
We will keep you updated as this bill progresses.
Thank you for all of your hard work in support of HIP!
