Dear Allies,
On Monday, Feb. 24, the public charge rule will go into effect, imposing a wealth test on green card and visa applicants. For 3 years now, anticipation of this rule has caused huge amounts of fear and confusion in immigrant communities. These changes have also led many people to think that they need to disenroll from programs and benefits they are entitled to.
As part of a nationwide "teach-in" day organized by the Protecting Immigrant Families (PIF) campaign, Health Care For All (HCFA) and the Massachusetts Immigrant and Refugee Advocacy Coalition (MIRA), PIF-MA steering committee members alongside Health Law Advocates and Massachusetts Law Reform Institute (MLRI), are organizing a roundtable discussion focused on messaging for our communities with the support of the Mayor's Office for Immigrant Advancement at the City of Boston:
Public Charge Roundtable with Immigrant Leaders
(Event Open to Press)
Monday, February 24th, 2020
12:30-2:00PM
Boston City Hall, Room 801.
Join us this upcoming Monday to learn more about the rule and how to communicate about its potential impact with immigrant community members. We will highlight key points, the toughest questions and how to address them, and what to expect with the rule moving forward. We will provide helpful resources and materials in different languages and will also encourage participants to identify unmet needs in an open conversation.
Please RSVP to mgonzalez@hcfama.org if you are planning to attend so we can prepare for this event!
We need a room full of wisdom to share and learn from one another.
Thanks,
Marion Davis
