We are writing to give you an update on the EBT photo card policy in MA and urge Coalition members to monitor how SNAP households are managing with food shopping at their local grocers and retailers.

1. Immigrant-headed households and EBT photo cards:  
DTA has just released Operations Memo 2014-16 announcing the increase in the standard medical deduction (SMD) from $90 to $155/month. Big thanks to DTA for pursuing the increase and USDA for approving it in December. As a reminder, medical expenses can be claimed by any SNAP recipients who are:
  • age 60 or older, or 
Here's two important events next week.
1.  Inequality for All Film Screening and Discussion at the State House, Wednesday, Feb. 26th from 10 AM to 1 PM. 

Here is a training announcement for the February 27th Basic Benefits Training on Elder Benefits.  Plenty of room for new enrollment.

1. Next Boston SNAP Coalition meeting on Tuesday, February 25th from 10 to Noon at St Francis House in Boston.  
Given the endless winter, the Feb Coalition meeting is weather-dependent. To wit, if there is a snow storm early next week and the Governor declares a state of emergency in Boston stay home! Otherwise, all engines moving forward.   

The latest news from the Health Connector & MassHealth- coverage in Commonwealth Care and Medical Security Plan extended to June 30; temporary coverage for people who applied for subsidized insurance in January 2014 and a "fast path" for people with unsubsidized insurance slated to end on March 31
