Dear Health Action Advocate,

Today we have a chance to show that we care about children's health care by letting our members of Congress know that, as children’s and health care advocates, we support the bipartisan legislation in the House of Representatives to extend funding for the Children's Health Insurance Program. CHIP provides affordable, comprehensive, high-quality health care to more than 8 million children, and this is expected to grow to more than 10 million in the coming year.

On Thursday, Congress is voting to extend funding for CHIP, a program that covers 8 million children. You need to act TODAY.

Tell your member of Congress to vote for children's health and support an extension of CHIP funding today by sending a message using the sample language at the bottom of this message.

Unless you act today, our opportunity to preserve and protect CHIP may be lost. House lawmakers are scheduled to vote Thursday on legislation that would extend funding for CHIP as part of a permanent solution to the Medicare Sustainable Growth Rate (SGR), often referred to as the "doc fix." The current SGR agreement expires on March 31, 2015.

CHIP is currently funded through September 2015, and states are already developing their budgets for the next fiscal year. Many governors have already weighed in and called on Congress to move quickly to extend funding for CHIP. That’s why it i€™s important that Congress act now.

What you can do TODAY to ensure that funding for CHIP is extended before time runs out:
  1. Write to your member of Congress today, asking that he/she support the SGR/CHIP funding package. Let your representative know how important CHIP is to the children and families in your state.

Find your representative'€™s contact information here or call the House switchboard at (202) 224-3121. See below for sample language.

    Dear Representative [Name],

Children's health care is a critical issue for each and every child. Without an extension of funding for CHIP, many children will lose their health coverage. I urge you to extend funding for CHIP. As a member of Congress, please act quickly to ensure that our state can continue to operate its CHIP program without interruption. By voting YES on H.R. 2, the Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act, you will be taking action to ensure that the children and families that rely on CHIP will continue to have access to affordable, high quality health care.

    Sincerely, [your name]
  2. Tweet to your member of Congress using this sample Tweet: The bipartisan House #SGR CHIP package has funding to #ExtendCHIP, @YourRepresentativeTwitterHandle should vote YES on H.R. 2.
