Talking Turkey about the Super-Committee and SNAP; Nov 29th Coalition Meeting

We hope this email finds you actually NOT in your office and instead en route to family and friends, or nestled at home baking goodies, or volunteering at your local food bank.  But, if you are around, here's some Turkey Talk for the Thanksgiving weekend, brought to you by the National Women's Law Center.  These are important messages but I just wanted to note that not only was Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid on the table, so was SNAP. And, the short term good news is that SNAP is not a "discretionary program" and thus also protected from automatic cuts, for now. But the MOST important news is that our advocacy work is FAR from over and that many programs we care about will be on the table, and the Farm Bill 2012 deliberations pose additional potential cuts.

REMINDER:  Food SNAP Coalition Meeting is Tuesday, November 29th from 10 to Noon at ST Francis House, 39 Boylston Street, 6th Floor, Boston.  In addition to former DTA Commissioner Julia Kehoe in attendance, we will ALSO be joined by Food Research Action Center Legal Director Ellen Vollinger who will walk us through what happened, what's next and what's at stake!  Join us on the 29th!!
