Stop & Shop strike - SNAP eligibility for strikers
Submitted by FoodSNAP on 04/13/2019 - 8:46am.
As of yesterday afternoon, about 31,000 Stop & Shop union workers went on strike in Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Connecticut. This Boston Globe article does a good job of providing an overview of the impact, along with a map of Stop & Shop stores across Massachusetts.
We are writing to share an MLRI Know Your Rights flier on SNAP and strikers- also posted at Mass Legal Services here: Masslegalservices.org/SNAPandstrikers. Please share with your networks.
We think many Stop & Shop workers who are on strike may be eligible for SNAP (if they are not already on). Strikers who were income eligible before going on strike, who care for children under 6, who are 60 or older, or who meet other rules are likely eligible.
If you hear from any strikers who are having a hard time accessing SNAP, please let me or Pat know.
