State FY18 Budget Alert: Contact your Legislator to Close the SNAP Gap!
Greetings SNAP Gap Common App Coalition & Supporters,
It's time for the last big push to get language included in the final FY18 Budget to close the SNAP Gap! Given the current fiscal situation, the likelihood of getting funds in the budget are slim, however, there is immense support in both the House and the Senate for addressing this issue and getting families and individuals the nutrition assistance they need.
Please contact your state Reps and Senators and ask them to weigh in with the conference committee to include the Senate provision on closing the SNAP Gap in the Conference Committee Budget. The Senate provision requires the Executive Office of Health and Human Services (EOHHS) to publish a plan by March 15, 2018 to implement an integrated eligibility system, including the capital and resources needed to do so.The language also requires EOHHS to prioritize aligning the SNAP and MassHealth benefits applications.
The Senate provision language is strong and would be a big win to have it included in the Final FY18 Budget. Please contact your state Legislator this week and ask them to express their support for the Senate language with the Conference Committee. There is an updated fact sheet attached that you can send along to your legislator.
Thank you for your continued advocacy throughout this budget process, feel free to email either of us with any questions.
And if you are not listed as an organizational sponsor on the Fact Sheet and wish to be listed, let us know.
