SNAP Gap VICTORY in Senate budget! Hearing on SNAP Gap Legislation Tuesday AM - template for testimony

Yesterday the Massachusetts Senate adopted Senator Sal DiDomenico’s amendment #434 along with a $1M boostin additional EOHHS funding for the Administration to take steps to pilot closing the SNAP gap!  This is HUGE!  Thanks to all who weighed in. This is a tremendous victory!

HEARING on TUESDAY AM!  As noted in earlier emails.  We have a hearing on the SNAP Gap legislation (H. 1173 and S. 678) on Tuesday AM at the State House.  Room A-1 from 10:30 to 1 PM.

If you would like to submit written testimony, MLRI can hand carry your testimony to the hearing if we get it before 9:30 AM on Tuesday.  Otherwise, you can send it to the Joint Committee on Health Care Financing in the next few weeks before the Committee has an Executive Session (we’d suggest  getting it there by June 7th).

NOTE:  The SNAP Coalition meeting at St Francis House is still on from 10 to Noon.  Come up to the Hill if you want to catch the end of the hearing or testify!

  • Oral Testimony:  All are welcome to present oral testimony.  Note, there are other health care bills being heard that AM, and four other Jt Committees hosting hearings on May 28th.  Testimony is on a “first come/first serve process.”  If you plan to testify, be sure to show up early.  If you want us to put your name on the list and you will be at the State House before 10:30 AM, please let me know by 5 PM today.
  • Testimony template: Thanks to Jamie Gaynes and Boston Children's attached is a sample template you can use for your testimony.  Cut and paste and put on your letterhead with any details you wish to share.  Also attached is sample testimony that Kristina Kimani of the Mass Public Health Association just shared with us. Remember - length is not important.  Please send on a copy of your testimony for us to put in the Google drive.
  • House and Senate Co-sponsors:   Attached is an update list of all the co-sponsors. Even MORE have signed on !!  91 Rep and 28 Senators - whoo hoo! Please be sure to THANK the Committee members in your written or oral testimony.  For a list of the HC Finance Members, see Committee here:
