SNAP Gap Updates: FY18 Budget Debate next week, Senate Hearing on SNAP Gap Bill & "Kids First" Initiative on Tyes May 2nd!

House begins budget debate on Tuesday - 69 Co-Sponsors on SNAP Gap! 

YES! We have a terrific list of 69 co-sponsors on the SNAP Gap amendment #31.  See attached PDF of Amendment #31 filed by Reps Livingstone and Khan with 67 co-sponsors!! See also fact sheet.

  • If your House member is not listed, please call or email them to co-sponsor. Reps have MORE time to sign on this week and until the Amendment is taken up!

The House will begin deliberations on the House Ways and Means Budget on MONDAY, April 24th. It is unlikely the House will take many votes that day. Typically Reps caucus to discuss the amendments and their priorities. We need to urge all co-sponsors to join Reps Livingstone and Khan in the Caucus meetings.If you are able to join us at the State House to talk with Members, Tuesday afternoon would be a perfect time to swing by the 4th Floor.

Public Hearing Scheduled for SNAP Gap/Common App Senate Bill 612 on May 2nd, 11 AM

While pushing for language and funding in the FY18 budget, we are also pushing the legislation to close the SNAP Gap. The Health Care Financing Committee has scheduled a public hearing for Senate Bill 612 on May 2nd (along with other health care bills). See  Both written and oral testimony in support is WELCOME! If you are interested in testifying in person, please let Pat Baker at MLRI know.

Boston SNAP Coalition Meeting,  Tuesday, April 25th

The next Meeting of the Boston SNAP Coalition is this coming Tuesday, April 25 from 10 to Noon at St Francis House in Boston. An agenda will go out Monday, Let us know what you'd like to cover. 

Folks coming to Boston are encouraged to stay in town and visit the State House in the afternoon to talk with their Reps and aides about the SNAP Gap, MEFAP, Breakfast after the Bell, Food Trust, HIP and more!â 

The House budget debate is a fascinating process to behold!
