The Online Resource for Massachusetts Poverty Law Advocates

Resources: WIC, cash assistance and public charge

We have a variety of resources to share with the SNAP Coalition on WIC, Cash Assistance, and Public Charge.

2019 WIC brochure

Attached is a great 2019 WIC brochure - It includes an overview of WIC and information on how to apply!

Family Cap Repeal and Resource on Types of Cash Assistance

As of April 2019, Massachusetts no longer has a family cap rule for Transitional Aid to Families with Dependent Children (TAFDC), the state's financial assistance program for very low income families. DTA has been adding thousands of family cap children onto TAFDC cases. See attached flier!

This is a huge win for TAFDC in MA! However, there are thousands of families on SNAP in MA with $0 of income - many may be eligible for cash assistance.  MLRI has created the attached 2 pager on different types of cash assistance options, including brief information about eligibility  and how to apply. We encourage community partners to talk with very families who have very low or no income about cash assistance.. Please contact MLRI or legal services with questions or issues.

Updated Client Friendly Materials in English and Spanish on Public Charge

Our national colleagues with the Protecting Immigrant Families campaign have updated resources on talking with immigrant families about public charge in English and in Spanish - including a handy flow chart of information about when public charge does and does not currently apply. We think these are very helpful resources!
