See forwarded notice from MassHealth (including powerpoint) about a presentation on establishing eligibility for MassHealth on the basis of disability. This is often a confusing process especially for people who do not yet have a determination of disability from Social Security, and also for disabled adults who may be eligible for CommonHealth but for whom MassHealth must separately process their application in two different systems: first the applications are processed in the HIX system to see if applicants may be eligible for MassHealth Standard based on disability, and if not, HIX sends out a notice about what they may qualify for if not disabled . Then the applications are processed again in the older MA-21 system which only then sends out a second notice telling applicants with a disability if they are eligible for CommonHealth or have a spenddown for CommonHealth.
MassHealth is planning some improved noticing in July to better explain what is going on & has also been presenting training to different audiences including this one coming up on May 1.
