It's time to CLOSE the SNAP Gap! Please call your MA Reps and Senators TODAY/Tomorrow to co-sponsor !

As you know, the shutdown is temporarily suspended - which is temporary good news til we see what happens Feb 15th. Even with the advanced SNAP benefits, the shutdown has wreaked havoc on the lives of low-income SNAP recipients. This HBO VICE News story of Jan 25th very powerfully describes how one Lawrence family - and the fantastic Project Bread Hotline has been trying to deal with the uncertainty.  At this juncture, SNAP benefits will likely continue through April, BUT we remain concerned about the long wait many families will face until their March benefits - and especially when schools take Feb vacation week and many students miss school breakfasts and lunches.  We will keep you posted on #shutdown action steps.

SNAP Gap/Common App:
We need your help getting co-sponsors on the SNAP Gap/Common App legislation, House Docket #791 and Senate Docket #1501.  Please call your member TODAY and them to co-sponsor "An Act improving public health through a common application for core food, health and safety-net programs." The House and Senate bills are identical.  It is critical to build support for this important legislative initiative.

Many Reps and Senators co-sponsored similar SNAP Gap legislation in 2017/18 . You can see who cosponsored by looking at House Bill 101and Senate Bill 612. - both of which received favorable reports out of the Joint Committees on Health Care Financing and Children and Families and referred to Ways and Means. .
