Children of Immigrants Data Tool
(Info from the Urban Institute Website, www.urban.org)
The Urban Institute Children of Immigrants Data Tool enables you to generate charts on the characteristics of children, age 0 to 17, for the United States and for the 50 states and the District of Columbia. Data come from the 2005 and 2006 American Community Survey.
With the Data Tool, you can compare populations of children defined by the nativity and citizenship of the child or their parents. For example, you can look at data for children with immigrant parents or citizen children with noncitizen parents across a rich array of statistics.
The available data include
- child characteristics (e.g., child's school enrollment),
- parent characteristics (e.g., English proficiency of parents), and
- family characteristics (e.g., family poverty)
Your customized chart can present either the number of children or the share (percentage) of children with a given characteristic. Children in low-income working families—the focus of the Urban Institute's Low Income Working Families Project—are highlighted as a separate population group.
