Health-Law-Announcements's Blog

The latest health law updates for advocates and social service providers in Massachusetts.

Earlier in the day we sent out MLRI's summary of the HWM budget. Amendments are due tomorrow.  While health programs fared far better than services for homeless families or cash assistance recipients, the budget did not address ongoing problems with restricted dental benefits, unreasonable delays at MassHealth offices, or support for outreach and enrollment grants.

Please call your representatives to co-sponsor the following health amendments which are priorities of the Affordable Care Today Coalition.

A new (2012) edition of the MassHealth Advocacy Guide is available for purchase from MCLE. https://www.mcle.org/product/catalog/code/2120492B06

Attached is a copy of a member notice that MassHealth sent out in December. It corrects information in an earlier May notice about the limitation in MassHealth payment for inpatient hospital days to 20 days. It makes clear that MassHealth-eligible patients hospitalized for longer than 20 days will NOT be liable for the additional hospital days due to the 20-day payment limit.

Listed below are 4 updates on national health reform litigation & small employer tax credits; a fair hearing decision regarding newish MassHealth "program integrity" policies to identify non-residents, and the change in state law limiting the dates when certain individuals can buy individual insurance on their own.

A few miscellaneous updates for you--
