The latest information on SNAP/ Food Stamp advocacy in Massachusetts.
Please see attached letter from Commissioner McCue regarding changes at the Springfield State St. DTA office. 
 
TODAY, July 31, will be the last day for walk-in services at the State Street location. Starting on Monday, August 3, DTA will move services for walk-in clients to Springfield Liberty (95 Liberty St). The State Street office will be serving as a processing center for SNAP documents. DTA has sent notices to clients in the Springfield State catchment area about this change. 
 
We are writing to remind SNAP Coalition members about about student eligibility and SNAP benefits. The July 20, 2015 Boston Globe article on loan default rates for community college students highlights the economic challenges many students face while in school and the debt they struggle with along the way.

This is a reminder that our next SNAP Coalition meeting is July 28 from 10 to Noon at St Francis House in Boston, 39 Boylston Street, 6th Floor. There is NO Coalition meeting in August.  The SNAP Coalition agenda will include:
 

We have seen recent SNAP cases with issues in the SNAP calculation, specifically regarding the household size.

ALWAYS BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR CLIENT'S SNAP CALCULATION TO MAKE SURE THE HOUSEHOLD SIZE IS CORRECT 

We wanted to be sure you knew about the upcoming SNAP webinar from our colleagues at the Food Research Action Center next Tuesday afternoon, July 28th at 1 PM. This FREE webinar starts is an hour after the Boston SNAP Coalition meeting ends (10 to Noon at St Francis House in Boston). For Coalition members who are traveling a distance and want to participate in the Webinar from MLRI's office, let us know. 
 
Hot off the press for those of you not at the SNAP Elder Working group meeting (which Lauren also attended). Miriam Kaufman is the Assistant SNAP Director, who many of you may know as an excellent worker and supervisor for many years. Lauren will be at the July 28th SNAP Coalition meeting as well.  See also changes relative to Regional Director and DV unit.

We realized we may have confused folks at one point with an earlier email stating it was July 21st (which was based on room limitations at St Francis House which have since resolved themselves). Sorry !ÂAlso, there is NO Boston-based SNAP Coalition meeting in August but we will keep you posted of any meetings in Worcester and Western MA.
