The latest information on SNAP/ Food Stamp advocacy in Massachusetts.
Just in case you missed it, please join MLRI, Project Bread, the Worcester County and WMass Food Bank, Catholic Charities and other state and local organizations to urge President Obama to invest in the 2015 Child Nutrition Reauthorization!
 
The FRAC Action Alert is below and provides easy links to add your organization to the letter. Deadline is September 24th. 
 
Many of you have been working hard with your local school districts on the Community Eligibility provision (CEP) as well as on school breakfast issues. Just wanted to be sure you saw the news from the Eos Foundation, making awards to eleven school districts this school year to boost breakfast in the classroom and their update from school year 13/14.
 
This is just a quick reminder of the SNAP Coalition Meeting on Tuesday, September 23rd in Boston from 10 to Noon at St Francis House in Boston.

The tentative AGENDA will include:
  • Update on Farm Bill 2014 implementation including Heat and Eat; changes affecting EBT vendors; SNAP E&T federal pilot
  • Reminder on October 1st COLA to SNAP benefits and allowable income deductions (standard deduction and shelter costs)

We are writing to flag some issues that we have seen impacting homeless youth trying to obtain SNAP/food stamp benefits. (Many of these issues affect homeless adults and victims of domestic violence as well.) Some SNAP Coalition members and homeless youth providers have reported that homeless youth are encountering issues applying for SNAP and other benefits at DTA including problems obtaining verification, or confusion about the application process for a minor.
