43. What if I own a car?

In general, there is no asset limit for most SNAP households. And even if you are one of the few SNAP applicants subject to the asset limit, vehicles are no longer a countable asset. This includes licensed and unlicensed vehicles such as cars, trucks, vans, motorcycles, and boats. 106 C.M.R. § 363.140(D).

Advocacy Reminder

If you own a car – and you have child care or medical expenses – you can claim the mileage for transporting your children for care, or for trips to medical appointments or the pharmacy.
