Demographic and Census Information
The seven tables on this page (statewide; the four legal services regions: Eastern, Southeast, Northeast, and Central/Western; LACCM service area; and WMLS service area) depict the geographical, linguistic, and income distribution of people with Limited English Proficiency in Massachusetts. The numbers in the tables are estimated totals, the results of calculations based on a 5% sample of the population in the 2000 Census, aged five and above. The right-hand column in each table contains the total LEP speakers of each language above and below the 187% of poverty line. The second column from the right contains the number of LEP speakers of each language whose incomes are below the 187% of poverty line. Each table contains those languages spoken by at least 700 people with Limited English Proficiency
