According to a new issue brief from the National Senior Citizens Law Center entitled Ensuring Consumer Protection for Dual Eligibles in Integrated Models, it is essential to have consumer protections in place before new models are implemented.

In an article on the appeals court ruling, Simon Lazarus is quoted, "His opinion [Judge Jeffrey Sutton]will be important not just because he will be viewed by conservative members of the Supreme Court as an ideological comrade in arms, but [because he will be viewed] by Chief Justice [John] Roberts as an intellectual peer. He raises every kind of objection made to the act in a thoughtful and sympathetic way and then proceeds to knock them down."

Today, seven plaintiffs filed a motion for a preliminary injunction in a class action lawsuit on behalf of 35,000 low-income people with disabilities, including older adults.

The result of block granting Medicaid would mean taking health care coverage away from millions of low-income older adults and people with disabilities.

In a press release, NSCLC said that any cuts would have dire consequences for millions of older Americans who are already living on the edge of financial disaster.

In a blog about the 6th District Court of Appeals decision on the health reform law, NSCLC's Simon Lazarus writes: "...what Judge Sutton thinks about the constitutionality of the mandate actually matters a lot to the future debate over the mandate."
