Advanced Topics in TPS for Haitians:  This Brown Bag program will discuss advanced topics such as:

Issues for Haitians with a criminal record;
Haitians who entered the U.S. without inspection (illegally) and the risks of filing for TPS;
Waivers (form requirements and documentation);
Fraud issues; and
Re-registration.

The Haitian Coalition in Somerville, UUSC (Unitarian Universalist Service Committee,) Harvard Law School Office of Pro Bono and Clinical Program, and CAAS (Community Action Agency of Somerville

Here are several immediate local opportunities to become trained in how to assist Haitians in completing TPS (Temporary Protected Status) applications and fee waivers. Trainings are being provided by Nancy Kelly, an immigration attorney at Greater Boston Legal Services. All are welcome to attend the trainings and/or webinar. We're asking people who have been trained to spent some time at one of the upcoming clinics in Cambridge and Somerville, to assist people with completing the TPS form and fee waiver.

Trainings will be:

  • Saturday, February 20, 10:00 am to 11:30, at Harvard Law School, Room 102, Hauser Hall (see http://www.law.harvard.edu/about/map.html for a map)
  • Thursday, February 25, 5:00 to 6:30, at the Unitarian Universalist Service Committee office, 689 Mass Avenue, 2nd floor (the Citizen's Bank Building in Central Square, Cambridge).
  • Wednesday, March 3, Webinar (on-line training with ability to question the trainer) will be from 7:00 - 8:30 pm.
  • Wednesday, March 10, Webinars (on-line training with ability to question the trainer) will be from 7:00 - 8:30 pm.

Irish Immigration Center

The IIC are looking for volunteers to assist in our response to the humanitarian crisis in Haiti, by working with Boston-area applicants on their applications for Temporary Protected Status (TPS).

If you are interested in donating your time to this cause please join us for our volunteer training on Wednesday Feb 24th 4-6pm. IIC Office, 100 Franklin St, Boston, MA 02110

Training for Legal Advocates and Attorneys who will be assisting at Catholic Charities TPS Clinics

Jeff Goldman of Mintz, Levin will a TPS Training on Tuesday, February 23, 2010 at 4:00 PM. The training will be on the 38th floor at One Financial Center, Boston, MA. Jeff has prepared a short training for all paralegals and attorney volunteers, which will cover the basics of TPS, introduce members to a template cover letter and an information sheet to hand out to the Haitian applicants, and provide information on the Waiver and Release form that Catholic Charities will use for this process. Members must RSVP for this event in order to ensure access to the building which has security. RSVP to Jeff Goldman at JWGoldman@mintz.com.
